A Proposed Resolution for General Convention 2009

Given the extraordinary sacrifice that we imposed upon our Gay, Lesbian, and Transgendered brothers and sisters at the  75th General Convention in Columbus, asking them to wait for justice for the sake of political unity and;

Given that, in spite of this fact, certain segments of the Church sought to separate this Church from Communion in any event due to a lack of willingness to follow the call of the Gospel to social justice for all  peoples; be it

RESOLVED that the Episcopal Church in the United States will establish a reparations fund to support the ministry of GLBT people in this Church as a symbol of our repentance and an encouragement of their witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, articulated by the GLBT members of this Church on our behalf.

Be it further RESOLVED that this Church shall publicly apologize to all members of the Gay, Lesbian and Transgendered community for contributing to the prevailing culture in the United States and abroad, which culture denigrates and demeans the full humanity of GLBT people instead of respecting the call of our Baptism to respect the dignity and integrity of every human person;

Be it further RESOLVED that having not learned our lesson as regards oppression; and having recognized our extraordinary history of oppression of people of color and women  as regards ministry to this Church; that this body meeting in Anaheim for this 76th General Convention will, as a token of our earnest repentance, resolve to exclude noo person once baptized from the full and total life in Christ promised and delivered by Our Lord Jesus in his sacrifice on the Cross.
