Voices of Witness
Just got back from seeing "Voices of Witness", a film about the witness of GLBT Christians in the Anglican tradition. The film was produced by Claiming the Blessing , an umbrella organization for advocacy of same sex unions in the Church.
It was a powerful and engaging response to thirty years of the Church promising to listen. Now there is a lasting opportunity to do so. In attendance were Howard Anderson of the National Cathedral, members of the HRC who underwrote the cost of production, the folks from All Saints, Pasadena, Bishop Gene Robinson, Susan Russell of Integrity and her partner, various participants in the filming, clergy and supporters including Jane Tulley from CFLAG.
The film was very moving an I recommend that you visit their site at the end of the week and download the film which is being offered as a free gift to the Church. I am hoping to mirror it on punkmonksf.
Earlier in the day, I had an opportunity to stand in a coffee line in front of David Virtue! It was all I could do not to say "DAVID!!! I want so much to love you, but you simply make it impossible!" He spent hi time muttering like a Chaillot Madwoman about conspiracies to keep information away from the press, the absence of Network Bishops, scandalized at a Network Bishop sitting around in civilian clothes, and his assurance that something foul was afoot at the Convention. He will never be happy.
Canon Jim Rosenthal from the ACNS is in attendance this week and I trust he will have plenty to say at the end of the week. Such a nice man! Spoke of the agony in the CofE right now and the press release that came out today that sai the consecration of women Bishops in the Church of England has been set back by at least ten years. WHY CAN'T WE GET THIS SORTED OUT!!!
Met several other religious from various communities today including my old ;-) and dear friend Catharine Grace from Community of the Holy Spirit. Spent some time chatting about getting old and how quickly the time seems to pass these days... as though when you hit forthy you enter some strange time/space continuum and all hell breaks loose.
More tomorrow... there is something afoot. Though not foul as some rather VIRTU-ous folks might imagine, there is a sense of promise and deliverance in the air.
Blessings
